Arlington International Racecourse (2009-2013)

Arlington Park (during some years, including the last time I visited, known as Arlington International Racecourse) was a Thoroughbred race track in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. I visited many times in many different grandstand configurations from the 1970s until this batch of photos. The grandstands I knew as a kid, burned down in July 1985. Temporary grandstands were installed in time for that year’s Arlington Million race. By 1989, A modern grandstand facility was built, and I visited that a number of times in the 1990s and beyond (the park closed a few times over the years thereafter due to various contract disputes and attempts at obtaining slot machines or other casino licensure.)

On February 15, 2023, the Chicago Bears of the National Football League purchased the property. In August 2025, the racetrack was fully demolished, in anticipation of the Bears building a new stadium on the site. As of the most recent revision to this page, that’s not looking as likely as a new stadium being built in northwest Indiana.
